Wise in Spain: a guide for expats

By Linus Palmqvist, Head of Operations Reviewed by Simon Nilsson Last reviewed

Wise is a regulated payment institution, not a conventional Spanish deposit bank. It is useful for transfers and as a companion account, but its standard documented EUR details are Belgian and Wise does not publicly confirm an ES IBAN for an ordinary personal account.

Is Wise right for your stage of move?

Use Wise alongside a real Spanish bank for international transfers, not as your only Spanish banking solution.

Good fit if

  • You need international transfers alongside another account.
  • You understand that Wise is not a conventional Spanish deposit bank.
  • A Belgian EUR IBAN is workable for your payments.

Check carefully if

  • You need a Spanish IBAN that Wise confirms publicly.
  • You want a conventional Spanish bank as your only account.
  • You need a general public Spanish phone number.

Choose your option

Choose between independent help with your move or checking Wise's current process directly.

IBAN

Wise’s standard documented EUR account details are Belgian; Wise does not publicly confirm a Spanish IBAN for an ordinary personal account.

Fees

Wise had no monthly maintenance fee as of 11 July 2026; transfer, conversion and card charges are usage-based. Check current terms.

Prepare before you apply

Match the option to your current stage, then confirm the live bank requirements before submitting an application.

  1. 1

    Treat it as a companion

Wise is best for transfers and a companion account, not as your only account.

  2. 2

    Check your IBAN needs

Its standard documented EUR details are Belgian; do not assume an ES IBAN.

  3. 3

    Plan card delivery

As of 11 July 2026, standard EEA card delivery was up to 14 working days and may be untracked.

English support reality

Wise likely offers English support through a logged-in help flow, rather than a single public Spanish phone line.

Support option

Use the logged-in help flow for English-language support.

Phone availability

Wise does not publish a single Spanish geographic customer-service number.

He speaks Spanish, lives in Málaga with his partner, and spends his days on the phone to Spanish providers.
