Movistar internet in Spain, explained in English

Check the steps, documents and installation details before you order home fibre. Then decide whether to do it yourself or let Settlewell coordinate setup.

Is Movistar right for you?

Movistar is the safe, all-round choice: it has the widest coverage and the lowest chance of installation problems. The trade-offs are a higher price and support that's mostly in Spanish.

Choose Movistar if

  • You want the best chance of getting fibre at your address — Movistar owns Spain's largest network, and many other providers rent space on it, so it often reaches homes others can't.
  • You want the lowest risk of installation delays or problems.
  • You don't want to be locked in — Movistar's fibre currently has no minimum contract.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want the lowest price — DIGI is usually cheaper where it's available.
  • You mainly need help in English — Movistar's support is mostly in Spanish, so Vodafone or Orange are easier.
  • Your address already has several good options — Movistar's main strength is coverage, so if that's not a worry, a cheaper or more English-friendly provider may fit better.

Choose your route

Both routes are valid. The choice is simple: order from Movistar yourself, or let Settlewell compare options and coordinate the setup.

Prepare once, avoid most delays

Most issues are operational, not technical. Give each fact one job: confirm the address, prepare the documents, then protect the installation appointment.

  1. 1

    Check the exact address

Availability should be checked at the full property address, not just the town or postcode. Online coverage is useful, but the technician still has to confirm the usable route and port.

  2. 2

    Decide what you actually need

Start with home fibre. Only add mobile, TV or bundle elements after confirming they fit the property, contract conditions and your move timeline.

  3. 3

    Prepare documents and contact details

Signing up with just a passport instead of an NIE can sometimes work through an official Movistar store, but it is inconsistent. Settlewell normally uses an NIE, a Spanish bank account and a Spanish phone number for a reliable order.

  4. 4

    Protect the installation appointment

Make sure someone can answer Spanish calls, grant building access and approve router or cable placement. Keep the old connection active until the new line is installed and tested.

What English help can you expect from Movistar?

Movistar can help in English through some teams and channels. Do not treat it as a guaranteed English helpdesk.

Official phone route

Movistar customer service can be reached through 1004 inside Spain. English help depends on the team and timing.

Social channels

Some expats report English replies through Facebook Messenger and other social channels. Replies can be delayed.

Practical expectation

Use Movistar if you can handle a Spanish-led process. English may be available, but it is not promised at every step.

Compare before you commit

Provider choice in Spain is address-specific. Movistar may be right, but Vodafone, DIGI, Orange or MásMóvil can be a better fit depending on support needs and coverage.
