ING in Spain: a guide for expats

By Linus Palmqvist, Head of Operations Reviewed by Simon Nilsson Last reviewed

ING is not a newcomer solution: Cuenta NoCuenta excludes the before-arrival and just-landed stages. Once you are a settled resident, it has a quick application, virtual card and no maintenance fee.

Is ING right for your stage of move?

A resident-only option worth considering after you are settled, not an option to use while planning your arrival.

Good fit if

  • You are a settled resident.
  • You want a quick digital application.
  • A virtual card and no maintenance fee suit you.

Check carefully if

  • You are still abroad or have just landed.
  • You only have a paper NIE.
  • You need confirmed English contract availability.

Choose your option

Choose between independent help with your move or checking ING's current process directly.

What stage are you at?

Bank fit changes depending on where you are in the move. Check each stage before treating a bank as a good option.

Before you arrive

Not available

ING is not a practical pre-arrival option.

Just landed

Not available

Cuenta NoCuenta explicitly does not accept a paper NIE for this stage.

Settled resident

Available

ING accepts a Spanish DNI, EU passport plus CUE, or non-EU TIE.

IBAN

ING Spain is a Spanish bank; the researched eligibility issue is its resident-only onboarding rather than an IBAN limitation.

Fees

ING advertised no maintenance fee as of 11 July 2026; an optional physical card was €5. Check current terms directly.

Prepare before you apply

Match the option to your current stage, then confirm the live bank requirements before submitting an application.

  3. 3

A virtual card is available immediately; the physical card was optional for €5 in the reviewed terms.
