Caser home insurance in Spain

By Linus Palmqvist, Head of Operations Reviewed by Simon Nilsson Last reviewed

Caser runs an expat-focused home product with three plans and publishes its full policy in English. This guide covers what it does well, the tourist-let catch, and how to set it up.

Is Caser a good choice?

Caser runs an expat-focused home product with three plans: Hogar Esencial, Hogar Integral and Hogar Prestigio. It suits a main home, a second home or a long-term rental, and it publishes its full policy in English, so you can read what is covered before you buy. The main catch is tourist letting, which the standard expat plans exclude, and sub-limits (caps on how much a specific item pays out) that still apply even on the broad tiers.

Caser can suit you if

  • You want an insurer with a plan to fit a main home, a second home or a long-term rental.
  • You would rather read the full policy in English before you commit.
  • You want an expat-focused product with English assistance.

Check carefully if

  • You want to run tourist lets: the standard plans exclude that, and Caser sells a separate product for it.
  • You are comparing on the entry plan: some cover sits higher up the range, and sub-limits still apply on the broad tiers.
  • You want to weigh Caser against the others first. The comparison lays all six out side by side.

Choose your route

You can set Caser up through Settlewell, or go to Caser directly. Either way, get the cover, the use of the property and the rebuilding value right before you buy.

What to get right before you buy

These four decide whether a home policy pays out properly. Get them right whoever you buy from.

  1. 1

Rebuilding value, not the purchase price

Insure the cost to rebuild the home, leaving out the land. Insuring for the price you paid can leave you badly under-insured.

  2. 2

    How the property is used

Main home, second home, long-term rental and holiday let are different risks. Describe the real use, because the wrong category can cause problems at claim time.

  3. 3

What your community policy already covers

A building's community policy may cover the structure but usually not your belongings, your private pipes or your own liability. Check before you double up or leave a gap.

  4. 4

The right plan for the cover you need

Plans include different things, and useful cover can sit higher up the range. Pick the plan around the cover you actually want.

How the Caser plans work

Caser sells three home plans. Cover widens as you move up, so choose the plan around the cover you actually want, and read the English conditions for that plan before you buy.

Three named plans

Hogar Esencial, Hogar Integral and Hogar Prestigio. They are not one policy at three prices; each includes different things, so the plan name alone does not tell you what is covered.

Useful cover often sits higher up

Some useful cover can sit on the broader plans rather than the entry one, and sub-limits still apply even on the broad tiers. Check the limit for anything you care about.

Tourist letting is separate

The standard expat plans exclude tourist letting. Caser sells a separate product for holiday and tourist rental, so if you let to paying guests, tell us and we set up the right one.

Compare it with the other insurers

This is one option, and the right insurer depends on how you use your home. See all six side by side before you decide.
