Allianz home insurance in Spain

By Linus Palmqvist, Head of Operations Reviewed by Simon Nilsson Last reviewed

Allianz has a separate home product for each way of using a home, sold in English on a Spanish contract. Read what it does well, the catch, and how to set it up.

Should you pick Allianz?

Allianz has separate home products for owners, landlords, tenants and tourist rentals, sold in English with an English claims team. The catch is that the binding policy is Spanish: we could not find it published in English, and the English marketing plan names do not map cleanly onto the Spanish contract tiers. That is where Settlewell helps, by explaining the Spanish wording and setting up the right product.

Allianz can suit you if

  • Your use is specific: a landlord, a tenant or a tourist rental with its own product.
  • You are comfortable with English service on a Spanish policy.
  • You want cover tailored with selectable protections.

Check carefully if

  • You want the binding policy in English: Allianz sells in English, but no English wording was found.
  • You are relying on the English marketing tier names: they do not line up neatly with the Spanish contract.
  • You want to compare Allianz with the others first. The comparison lays all six out side by side.

Choose your route

You can set Allianz up through Settlewell, or go to Allianz directly. Either way, get the Spanish policy documents and confirm the product and the excess before you buy.

  • We deal with the insurer for you and explain anything that is unclear.
  • Settlewell is free to use, and we compare the options so it is the right fit before you commit.

What to get right before you buy

These four decide whether a home policy pays out properly. Get them right whoever you buy from.

  1. 1

Rebuilding value, not the purchase price

Insure the cost to rebuild the home, leaving out the land. Insuring for the price you paid can leave you badly under-insured.

  2. 2

    How the property is used

Main home, second home, long-term rental and holiday let are different risks. Describe the real use, because the wrong category can cause problems at claim time.

  3. 3

What your community policy already covers

A building's community policy may cover the structure but usually not your belongings, your private pipes or your own liability. Check before you double up or leave a gap.

  4. 4

The right plan for the cover you need

Plans include different things, and useful cover can sit higher up the range. Pick the plan around the cover you actually want.

How Allianz is set up

Allianz sells a separate product for each way of using a home, in English, but the binding policy is Spanish, so get the Spanish documents and confirm the product before you buy.

A product for each use

Owners, landlords, tenants and tourist rentals each have their own Allianz product. Tell us the exact use so the right one is set up.

English names, Spanish contract

The English marketing plan names do not map cleanly onto the Spanish contract tiers, and we could not find the policy published in English. Settlewell explains the Spanish wording for you.

Getting the Spanish documents

Ask for the Spanish General Conditions and the IPID, the short standardised summary of what a policy covers, and confirm which product your quote is. Settlewell handles that side for you.

Compare it with the other insurers

This is one option, and the right insurer depends on how you use your home. See all six side by side before you decide.
