A Línea Directa office in Spain

Is Línea Directa a good choice?

Línea Directa is a direct, value-led insurer, and its home policy is one of the few you can read in full in English before you buy, backed by a 24-hour English claims line. If reading the policy in your own language matters most, it is a strong choice. Two things to check: common cover like external pipes and simple theft sits only in the top tier, and there are strict rules once the home is left empty for 96 hours.

Línea Directa can suit you if

  • Reading the policy in English is your priority.
  • You want a direct, value-led insurer rather than an adviser-led one.
  • You are happy to buy and manage the policy online or by phone.

Check carefully if

  • You want broad cover at the lowest price: external pipes and simple theft only come in the top tier.
  • You leave the home empty often: water precautions apply after 96 hours.
  • You let to tourists: the current public documents do not clearly confirm short-term or holiday letting, so get it in writing.

Choose your route

Read the policy in English, then choose how to buy. You can go to Línea Directa directly, or let Settlewell compare the insurers and set you up with home insurance in English, for free.

What to get right before you buy

These four decide whether a home policy pays out properly. Get them right whoever you buy from.

  1. 1

Rebuilding value, not the purchase price

Insure the cost to rebuild the home, leaving out the land. Insuring for the price you paid can leave you badly under-insured.

  2. 2

    How the property is used

Main home, second home, long-term rental and holiday let are different risks. Describe the real use, because the wrong category can cause problems at claim time.

  3. 3

What your community policy already covers

A building's community policy may cover the structure but usually not your belongings, your private pipes or your own liability. Check before you double up or leave a gap.

  4. 4

The right plan for the cover you need

Plans include different things, and useful cover can sit higher up the range. Pick the plan around the cover you actually want.

How the Línea Directa cover is set up

Línea Directa publishes its home conditions in English, and the entry tier is narrower than the name suggests, so useful cover sits higher up. Read the English conditions before you buy.

Wider cover sits higher up

Cover for external pipes and simple theft sits only in the top tier, so if you want those, check you are not on the entry one.

Rules when the home is empty

There are strict water precautions once the home is left empty for 96 hours, which matters for a second home. Read them before a second-home policy.

The policy is in English

Línea Directa publishes its full home General Conditions, the binding policy document, in English, so you can read exactly what is covered before you commit.

Compare it with the other insurers

This is one option, and the right insurer depends on how you use your home. See all six side by side before you decide.
